Predominantly a printmaker, Paul studied his craft at Manchester and later Croydon. He was a founder member of Peacock Printmakers in Aberdeen and in 1978 he established the highly regarded Manchester Etching Workshop which he ran until his move to Scotland in 2000. His paintings still retain a highly sculptural use of paper, each incorporating a wooden panel inlaid with paper pulp and pigment to achieve the feeling of atmosphere he requires. As befits one of the United Kingdom’s leading printmakers his awards, prizes and collections are too numerous to list but notable collections include the V & A, the Johnsonian Museum, New York, the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art and the Hunterian.
