Born in the Orkneys, Alexander studied at Glasgow School of Art. He taught at a variety of schools across Scotland before finally concentrating full time on his painting career in 2007. He is a regular exhibiter at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Glasgow Institute and Visual Arts Scotland of which he is a professional member. He has also been elected to membership of the Paisley Art Institute. His work can be found in many private collections worldwide most notably those of Glasgow University and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
