Born in Cheltenham, he studied painting at Leicester College of Art and The Royal Academy Schools where he won the silver medal for drawing under the later Peter Greenham. He has won numerous awards including the David Murray Landscape Prize, the Dooley Prize for Anatomical Drawing presented by the Royal College of Surgeons and HRH The Prince of Wales' prize for portrait drawing at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He was selected by Sir Brinsley Ford for his 1988 exhibition at the Kings Lynn Festival. As a travelling artist, he accompanied HRH The Prince of Wales to Nigeria, Cameroon, Tunisia and Japan in 1990 and the Middle East in 2004. He is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Painters/Stainers. His corporate collectors include Baring Bros, Lazards, the Hammerson Group, Hambros and the National Trust.
