Born in Glasgow, John studied at both Glasgow and Edinburgh Schools of Art. He is a well known television and theatre writer, painter and illustrator. In the 1960s and 1970s his work became popular through his naive, dreamlike illustrations for the music industry, notably the portrait of the Beatles for their ‘Illustrated Beatles Lyrics’.
